National accessArts Centre + Mathieu Hérard

The evening features two works. Iconic is a disability-led dance-based performance created by the National accessArts Centre dance ensemble. It incorporates a wide range of dance, performance styles, individual expression, and collaboration driven by the ensemble's personal vernacular and lived experience. An homage to lip sync, Mon horoscope me trouve laide explores the absurdity and poetry of using the voice of another person. Everything is possible through the magic of dubbing: caricaturing someone else's traits, gaining confidence through another's words, changing by taking on a personality that isn't ours. History(ies) of territory(ies)

Jessica Houston (Montreal) and Laurence Butet-Roch (Toronto) are deeply interested in environmental justice and the construction of narratives through the prism of colonial history and territorial violations. In particular, they examine the responsibility of visual documentation rooted in collective memory, and propose a dialogue between archive and contemporary image in order to revise unilateral narratives. Questioning their own legitimacy in this process of re-actualization, each considers it essential to inscribe their approach in a collaborative and consultative process necessary for thinking about future readings, in the light of new imaginaries.
