MAHKU (MOVIMENTO DOS ARTISTAS HUNI KUIN) - Address SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art 372 Sainte-Catherine Street West Suite 507 Montréal, QC H3B 1A2 Place-des-Arts Downtown - Quartier des spectacles - Schedule Sep 3 to Oct 22, 2022: Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, noon to 5:30 p.m. - Montréal Museums Pass Accepted Price Free Activity - Vende tela, compra terra means: Sell canvas, buy land. For 10 years, MAHKU (Movimento dos Artistas Huni kuin) has been protecting the nixi pae by developing a contemporary artistic practice that is both a methodology for safeguarding and renewing Huni Kuin ancestral knowledge and a strategy for territorial recovery. For the Huni Kuin, an indigenous people living in the Western Amazon, across the Brazilian state of Acre and Peru, taking care of ayahuasca, the nixi pae, is taking care of the planet. MAHKU claims visual art as a weapon in the struggle for political, ecological and cultural autonomy of the Huni Kuin people. Event Details
