Dowd and his best friend, an invisible six foot, three and one half inch rabbit named Harvey. Elwood and his pal are well known and loved but when Elwood introduces his oversized rabbit to guests at a society party, his status obsessed sister Veta is mortified. To spare her family further embarrassment Veta decides to commit her brother to a sanitarium, but upon arrival at the hospital, the doctors institutionalize her instead.
